ACTUAL AND FUTURE THEMES OF THE INTERCULTURAL WEBSITE

This website is born out of the belief that our cultural and religious heritage is extremely meaningful and relevant in our daily lives and in its way to shape the human future on planet earth. Although we can observe that many serious conflicts and wars tend to result at least partially from cultural and religious misunderstandings, we should not overlook the good that is also being achieved. In India, as in many countries around the world, cultural and religious values help people to be kind and compassionate and to care of the plight of the needy, the oppressed and the excluded.

Interreligious understanding

In recent times religion has often been in the news for the wrong reasons. Either it is terrorism or violent conflict between different religious communities. In all the din and bustle we often forget the efforts at communal harmony and inter-religious peace that a large number of organisations and individuals are involved in all over the world. This theme dwells on these efforts and reflections taking place in the Indian sub-continent.

Women and gender justice

This theme focuses on women and gender justice. India has been facing an increase of violence against women. We need to look at the values that underpin gender relations. The goal will be to offer values from cultures and religions to foster more humane relations between genders.

Culture and ecology

This theme focuses on the relationship between ecology and culture. As the climate crisis continues to worsen, we are already witnessing droughts and floods as well as the plight of farmers whose livelihoods are lost. Some farmers in India are even committing suicide as a result of the climate. We need to use all the resources available to deal with today's climatic challenges. The arena of culture and religion provides enormous support in the form of values and beliefs to change our lifestyles and move to patterns of sustainable development.
