Workshop on culture, food security and climate change

About twenty five social activists gathered in Ooty city of Tamilnadu to discuss the cultural and social reasons for the decline in the cultivation of millets in the Nilgiris district. Millets are 3 to 5 times more nutritious than rice and wheat and represented the staple food of the poor in the past. There was an attempt to look at tribal cultural values and how these values could help get back to sustainable lifestyles and consumption of millets.
