Why an intercultural calendar?
Designed by Pipal Tree, in collaboration with Editions Agora, this site offers a calendar of major civil and religious festivals in India (presented over months or by tradition). Furthermore, it prompts to think about different topical themes related to the numerous religions and cultural traditions of India.
Each tradition carries within it the potential to offer contemporary meanings to the personal, the social and the ecological dimensions of our lives. It is these meanings that help us to understand the world around us and motivate actions to create a better world. This inter-cultural calendar is one attempt to understand the challenges that lie before us and to act upon them.
This website is designed to be used in schools and colleges to promote discussions about the various themes that will be proposed over the years. Thousands of students will be part of this educational process. Whenever possible, it will also be spread among farmers, tribesmen and rural women.
We hope this site will encourage discussions that can contribute to creating a just, peaceful, and sustainable future for the Earth Community.
